FAQ
Before you download
Why should I use this?
If you already fall asleep to podcasts, Dreamerie does the fiddly parts for you. It picks something calm for you to listen to. It can play all night, with short quiet breaths between shows, or its sleep timer can fade out around when you usually fall asleep. With the subscription, it offers to pick up from just before you fell asleep. If you don’t fall asleep to podcasts yet, it’s a gentle way to find out whether you’d like to.
Why shouldn’t I just use YouTube, Spotify, or a white noise app?
If you already fall asleep happily to one of them, keep doing that. But Dreamerie is specially designed for sleep: every show in its library is chosen deliberately, each episode comes in at about the level of the last, and it keeps going until morning on its own. It isn’t white noise, either: real stories, history, science, and soundscapes, with ASMR if you want it.
Is Dreamerie free?
Yes. The library, Dreamerie’s pick, the sleep timer, ASMR, and what played each night are free. A subscription adds more for people who want it; the price and what it includes are under What it costs. You don’t need an account, and nothing nags you to upgrade.
Why isn’t everything free?
We don’t sell ads or your data, so the subscription is how we keep Dreamerie running and improving.
Isn’t this just another sleep tracker?
No. Dreamerie is not a sleep tracker, and it doesn’t measure your sleep. If you turn on Apple Health, it reads the sleep data your watch, ring, or other wearable already records, to learn when you usually fall asleep and to find where you drifted off. If you like, in the morning, Your nights shows what played, night by night.
Do you sell my data?
No. We don’t sell ads or data, and there’s no account tracking you. Dreamerie is built to keep what it learns on your device, and the Privacy Policy explains exactly what is and isn’t collected.
Are there ads?
Dreamerie plays no ads of its own. Some shows carry their publishers’ ads; we tag them Contains ads, favor shows with few or none, and aim to play those at the start of the night rather than at 3 a.m.
Do I need an Apple Watch or other wearable?
No. Dreamerie works without one. With Apple Health turned on in Dreamerie, any device or app that records your sleep in Apple Health, like an Apple Watch or an Oura Ring, adds three things: the free Auto sleep timer, which learns when you usually fall asleep; picking up where you fell asleep; and your sleep data alongside what played in Your nights. The last two need the subscription.
Does it really keep playing all night?
Yes, until morning, or until the sleep timer ends it.
Does it need an internet connection?
Yes. Dreamerie plays shows over the internet, so starting the night needs a connection. On Wi-Fi, the app usually saves the next show to your phone just before it plays, so if your connection drops, that show keeps going. If the connection is still down when it ends, Dreamerie plays a soft background sound until it comes back, then carries on. If our server is the one having trouble, the app keeps going with a few episodes it lined up at bedtime.
What it plays
What kind of shows?
Calm ones: history, science, stories, soundscapes, and ASMR if you turn on Play ASMR content in Settings. We choose publicly available podcasts for how well they suit sleep and keep out anything raucous, so you’ll find shows many people already fall asleep to.
Who chooses what plays tonight?
We choose Dreamerie’s pick for you based on what we think you’ll like, so you don’t have to think. The more you use it, the better we’ll pick. But if you want to choose, you can do that too, either from our curated library for free, or you can add any publicly listed podcast with the subscription.
What if I don’t like a show?
Mute it and it won’t come up on its own. You can mute up to three shows for free, and as many as you like with the subscription. If something is wrong with a show, like it’s too loud, has too many ads, or just doesn’t seem to be sleep appropriate, tap the flag on Now Playing and we’ll review it.
Can I add my own shows?
With the subscription, you can add any publicly listed podcast that isn’t in our library. Dreamerie can’t play the paid or bonus versions some publishers sell through Apple Podcasts or Patreon, even if you subscribe to them, or shows that are exclusive to a service like Spotify.
Is the library only in English?
The library is in English and includes shows from outside the US, such as the BBC’s, though a few publishers only make a show available in their own country. With the subscription you can add shows in any language, as long as they’re listed in the podcast directories Dreamerie searches.
Is there content for kids?
No. Dreamerie isn’t made for children. It plays publicly available podcasts, and we can’t guarantee that every episode is suitable for a child, so we keep kids’ shows out of the library rather than invite children in.
What it costs
How much does it cost?
The library, Dreamerie’s pick, the sleep timer, ASMR, three favorites, three mutes, and what played each night are free. Your own shows, Pick up where you drifted off1, Your sleep history1, and Unlimited favorites and mutes are $14.99 a year in the US App Store, and new subscribers can get the first month free. Your local price shows in the App Store and in the app; the subscription renews yearly, and you can cancel at any time through the App Store.
How does the free month work?
If your Apple Account is eligible, your first month is free. You’re charged when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before, and after that the subscription renews yearly unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
What happens if my subscription ends?
Nothing is deleted. The shows you added and your sleep history are hidden but kept on your device, your first three favorites and first three mutes stay as they are, and the rest pause. Subscribe again at any time and everything comes back as it was.
How do I cancel, get a refund, or move to a new phone?
To cancel, open the iPhone Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Dreamerie; or in Dreamerie open Settings, tap Subscription, then Manage subscription. Apple handles payments, so refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. On a new phone, sign in with the same Apple Account, then in Dreamerie open Settings, tap Subscription, and tap Restore purchases.
Privacy
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for.
Can I trust you with my health data?
Yes. Apple Health is off until you turn it on, and when it’s on, Dreamerie reads only your sleep and your overnight steps from Apple Health on your device, and we never receive them. See the Privacy Policy and the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
How do I clear my data?
Open Settings in Dreamerie and tap Clear all my data. It erases everything Dreamerie stored on your device, including shows you added, your listening history, what the sleep timer has learned, and your night history. Nothing connected to you is stored on our servers.
After you download
Why hasn’t Dreamerie seen last night’s sleep?
Some wearables send your sleep to Apple Health only after you open their own app. If yours does, open it when you wake up, so Dreamerie can access your data.
Something isn’t working, or I have an idea
See Support for how to reach us, including sending the app’s log. If the app says Can’t reach Dreamerie, our server is having trouble, and the status page shows what we know. We read every suggestion, though we can’t promise to build them all.
